One More Mission is a project that was founded in 2026 with one goal in mind — to bring about the kingdom of heaven, for such a time as this. It all started with Jesus's ministry in the New Testament, which was to serve, not to be served. We were reminded of this when there was a need that arose in our community and we weren't able to meet it. We knew there was someone out there that could show Christ by meeting it. We just didn't know where to find them.

For years, the Christian community has fallen away from the heart of the Father, which we believe is best defined in his word when he says, “The greatest of these is love”. His love is unconditional. The AGAPE love. One without boundaries. One that does not discriminate.

We became too comfortable with the examples he gave us: the woman at the well, the woman caught in adultery, the friends who carried the sick man to the top of the roof just so he could reach Jesus. It's time we return to the heart of the Father. Love one another like Jesus did. The homeless. The widowed. The fatherless. The ones the church has practically shunned for far too long.

It's time we begin focusing on home. The neighbours that surround us. We are commanded in the scriptures to love our neighbours as ourselves. In a world so focused on monetary gain for time, services rendered, and even just friendship, we have an outstanding opportunity and calling to stand our watch and be the ones who bring about the kingdom of God. To be the hands and feet of Christ.

What we believe about the work

We think the gospel shows up with a toolbox as often as it shows up with a sermon. A repaired step, a working furnace, a bag of groceries carried to the kitchen counter — these are not the warm-up act for the real thing. They are how people find out that somebody sees them.

We do not means-test people and we do not ask anybody to sit through anything to earn help. We will pray with you if you want it, and we will fix your door if you do not.

What we ask of our volunteers

We send people into the homes of the elderly and the vulnerable. That privilege comes with conditions, and they are not negotiable.

• A background check. Every applicant is checked, for the safety of the people we serve. It is not personal and nobody is exempt.
• An orientation class. Once you are accepted you attend an orientation before you are paired with a need. It is short, and it covers how we conduct ourselves in somebody else's home.
• A release of liability, signed by the volunteer and by the person receiving the help. Both sides know where they stand before any work starts.
• Licensure where the trade requires it. Electrical work, gas, plumbing and anything structural go to somebody licensed for it. If you are not licensed you can still carry, clear, drive, cook and sit with people — and that is most of what comes in.
• You telephone before you go. Nobody comes unannounced, ever.

None of this is meant to put you off. It is what lets a widow open her door to a stranger with any peace of mind at all.

How we keep people safe

Most of the folks who ask us for help are elderly and living alone. That shapes everything. Every request is read by a real person before it is posted. Every volunteer account is approved by hand. Every match between a volunteer and a home is approved separately, and only then does anybody get an address.

Nobody comes unannounced. Your volunteer telephones you and agrees a time before they set out. If someone knocks claiming to be from this project and they never rang first, do not let them in — call us on (423) 292-1922.

Street addresses, phone numbers and notes about getting into a house are never published. The public board shows a town and a first name.
